Undergraduate Program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution

Field Experience

Students are required to participate in three credits of field work, which may take the form of an internship, study abroad, or a service learning opportunity. Each student should consult with program staff and their advisor to determine the type of field experience that would be most valuable.

Internships

Students can take advantage of Mason's proximity to Washington, D.C. by interning at one of the many national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that have offices in the national capital area. In addition, opportunities exist to work with a variety of federal government agencies as well as local and state level organizations working in the field of conflict.

Internships are coordinated through New Century College's Internship Coordinator, Cecilia Uy-Tioco, who can provide information on registration and requirements. Cecilia can be contacted at 703-993-3891 or cuytioco@gmu.edu. The location of the internship should be approved by the major advisor.

Service Learning

Service learning opportunities are coordinated by Mason's Center for Service and Leadership. Consult with the major advisor about the applicability of service learning programs.

Study Abroad

Study abroad is strongly encouraged for students in this major, particularly for those in the global concentration. However, students wishing to study abroad must consult with their advisor about the applicability of the coursework to the requirements for the major. Study abroad opportunities are coordinated through Mason's Center for Global Education.
